The green and self-sustainable city, Topic 2

Group 1

People have changed through the ages. We changed our habits, our food, our cultures, technologies, morals. We have developed through time, and our development acquired natural sacrifices. From cutting down trees for building homes a long time ago, to polluting the atmosphere for our luxuries in the present day. We could say that we have distanced ourselves from nature and that we misuse it.  This last thing is a subject we have come to discuss a lot recently. Worldwide discussion started to occur concerning Mother Nature. Through our development, nature has become a fully used asset. This asset needs to be repaid.

The place which has mostly been differentiated from nature is the city with its industries. The only nature existing in cities is human contro

lled nature.  Cities are very polluting, concerning factors of emission through transport and industries. Much energy is lost in cities all around the world. Energy in cities is lost through bad isolation,  inefficiencies  and aged technologies. These cities are mostly dependent on the world around. Energy, food and products come from other places/industries.

Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Project

As nowadays the centre of a city has fewest greens in it, we plan to develop a city with a green heart: Nature at the core of the city.A green and self-sustainable town with a diverse range of accommodations. New and eco-friendly technologies will be adjusted in this plan. This Eco-City becomes – in cooperation with its willing and adjusted inhabitants – an organism on its own, producing own energy and food.

Ways to create green energy

  • Photovoltaic module
  • Wind turbines
  • Uses of Biogasses
  • SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems)
  • Biogass from sewage systems

More green in the streets:

  • The streets become peoples property, its ‘their garden’ and so they will take care of it.
  • Trees in the street will decrease noises, will either capture warmth in cold times or it will block it in warm times.
  • Trees decrease the CO2 percentage and increase 02 percentages


Other measurements:

  • Use of natural materials and glass to make city look natural
  • Subsidies for use of green energy and gas to tempt people
  • Natural forms, colours and materials
  • Cattle on roofs and in the neighborhoods. (provides food and excretion used for energy)
  • Ecologie, diverse, wetlands, forests

  • Comibnation of the Romantics and the Enlightenment
  • Natural forms
Eco- City priorities: the Minimization of inputs
of energy and food:

  • Zero emission transport
  • Zero emission buildings
  • Sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS)
  • Drainage systems supplying bio-gasses
  • Energy conservation systems
  • Improved public transport
  • Farms close to city, small field to fork distance
  • Optimal building density (reducing distance work-home, capturing warth, less space used)

Materials

  • wood, stone, glass (adapts) for low buildings
  • higher buildings: metals and glass.
